It’s Time to Rethink Your Dining Room Decor
Let’s all try to re-invigorate a room in our home with decor we already own! I am going to share how I did this using our dining room decor.
Every season I like to style our dining room. I usually set the table, even when I have no specific meal or event planned. This year I decided it would be fun to rethink our dining room decor.
Dining Room Decor
As you can see, pink is my new favorite color.
I set this table for New Year’s Eve and it was perfect.
Interesting enough, my boys never mentioned the pink. I still can’t decide if they all got together and decided not to comment. Because there is no way they didn’t notice all of the pink items!
Normally they would give me a really hard time. Hmmm.
Shop Your Own Home
The best part of the new decor in this room is that it isn’t new at all. Just like when I decorated my kitchen last week, I shopped my own home when I styled our dining room.
I also reused some of my Christmas decor as you can see with the DIY Pipe Cleaner Trees and vintage Christmas ornaments.
When I picked pink as my primary color to start out the new year, I picked it because I knew I had a lot of pink decorations stashed throughout our home.
And by “stashed” I mean “hiding in cabinets, trunks, drawers, closets and on the third floor”. (Don’t worry, I have already started organizing my extra decor on the third floor by color and type.)
So what does this mean for you?
Maybe you want to rethink your dining room decor. Or any other room for that matter.
Choose a Color
It means that first, you might want to pick a color to change things up a bit in your home. We have all spent a lot of time at home and a new color and a little refresh is not only fun but it was the perfect change we needed.
When you pick a color, pick one that doesn’t require you to buy all new decor. If you don’t think you have enough accessories in one color, then pick two complementary colors to give you more options.
As you can see here, I added copper items because I already own a lot of copper items in our home. I love the combination of pink and copper. Wow.
New Year’s Eve Dinner with Sea Bass
Our New Year’s dinner was unbelievable. I served a wonderful Sea Bass, asparagus, lemon risotto, and a green salad with dried cranberries, sauteed pecans, mandarin oranges, and more. For dessert, I served gluten-free brownie sundaes.
Sea Bass with Ginger Sauce
Ingredients
- Sauce
- 1 cup white wine
- 1/4 cup chopped shallots
- 1/4 cup thinly sliced fresh ginger
- 1/2 cup whipping cream
- Sea Bass
- 6 tablespoons soy sauce
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 3 teaspoons rice vinegar
- 1 1/2 tablespoons cold water
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 4 6- to 7-ounce sea bass fillets
- 4 tablespoons chilled butter, cut into small pieces
Instructions
For sauce:
Combine wine, shallots, and ginger in a heavy small saucepan over high heat. Boil until liquid is reduced to 1/4 cup, about 5 minutes. Add cream and boil until liquid is reduced by half, about 3 minutes. Remove from heat.
For fish:
Mix soy sauce, honey, and rice vinegar in another heavy small saucepan. Mix water and cornstarch in a small bowl until smooth. Add to soy sauce mixture. Stir mixture over medium heat until glaze boils and thickens slightly, about 2 minutes. Remove from heat. Cool glaze to room temperature. (Sauce and glaze can be prepared 1 day ahead. Cover separately and refrigerate.)
Preheat oven to 350°F. Arrange fish on small baking sheet. Brush with some of glaze. Bake until opaque in center, about 30 - 45 minutes.
Remove from oven. Bring the remaining glaze to boil. Spoon glaze over fish.
Meanwhile, bring sauce to simmer. Remove from heat. Gradually add butter to sauce, whisking just until melted. Strain. Season with salt and pepper.
Spoon sauce onto 4 plates, dividing equally. Top with fish and serve.
Clever Table Ideas
I made these place cards and they were a big hit. I found a quote that perfectly identified everyone at the table. When my family entered the dining room, they had to find their place setting by reading the quotes.
This quote was mine. “When you invite someone to sit at your table and you want to cook for them, you’re inviting a person into your life.”
How fun is this? I pulled out one of our decanters and replaced the lid with this very inexpensive Cut Glass Paperweight.
Of course it is pink.
Now that our New Year is here and our celebratory dinner is over, the dining room still looks very festive and pink.
I have already started my DIY’s for Valentine’s Day and I cannot wait to share.

I have been slowly collecting red transferware from thrift stores, mostly for decorative purposes. Your table settings inspired me to order some pink glassware and for the first time we used these dishes for our Christmas dinner. Thanks for the inspiration to get some extra use from this collection. I plan on using them for Valentine’s day as well.
I’m so happy Sharon. The red transferware and pink glassware look so pretty together! Below are some links to pink glassware on Amazon!

I hope it turns out wonderfully!
Could you please post the recipe for the green salad. I have some mandarin oranges I need to use.
Leafy greens, candied pecans (you can buy these already made), mandarin oranges, blue cheese (if you like it) tossed with bottled balsamic vinaigrette. So easy and so yummy!
What a clever and fun idea for the place cards!
Your home is stunning and very cozy looking. Can you tell me your paint color for your dinning room and if you used the same paint color everywhere?
Thank you
You can search paint color on the blog and you will find several posts that listing of all of the paint colors and brand for each room Kathy!
Oh I love that copper! Pair it with pink/blush, and I’m a goner! This is beautiful Leslie – I’m going to go scrounge through my cupboards tonight! 🙂
Oh I love this Barbara, I hope you find some wonderful treasures! 😊
Hi Leslie, I have so enjoyed your beautiful home and DIY ideas and after seeing the beautiful pink glasses I had to order a set of each size. Received them and absolutely love. Now I have to start looking for more pink!
I’ve tried to find the pink napkins but when I click on them it takes me to the pink glasses. Could you share the name of the napkins please
