HIGH OR LOW // Linen Press
I think one of the biggest challenges every homeowner and designer faces is “how to hide the TV”. I am sorry but even a flat screen doesn’t look good with my farmhouse decor. Seventeen years ago when we remodeled our downstairs we had a linen press built in our family room to “hide the TV”. If you don’t know what a linen press is, I looked up the definition.
Linen Press
noun
1: A built-in cabinet near bedroom or bathroom, for easy access to fresh bed sheets and towels.
Analogous terms: laundry cupboard or linen cupboard. In Ireland, the term hot press describes an airing cupboard used for storing linen.
As you can see from the photos it looks pretty cool and hides our humongous flat screen very well! But the cost of a built-in linen press is not inexpensive. So what if you wanted to buy a linen press? Do you go high or low?
HIGH // Retail Price: $1849
I found one for sale on Houzz. It’s not cheap but it’s gorgeous and a good size. It’s $1849 (on sale from $1850 … seriously, $1 off?) But the picture is deceiving because it’s only 48” wide.
LOW // Retail Price: $1299
Joanna Gaines also has a linen press. It’s less expensive at $1299 and it’s 60” wide.
My suggestion? There are so many antique armoires available since flat screens became popular. Find one that fits your tv, get some chalk paint and do your own makeover for pennies on the dollar!
