What’s the most difficult gift to find for the holidays? For me, it has to be hostess gifts. I always want to give great hostess gifts because anyone that invites us to their home deserves the best gift ever! So today I am sharing how to make homemade vanilla. It has to be the easiest thing ever to make. It’s also so much cheaper to make than buy. And it’s so delicious.

Today I have also paired with some wonderful blogging friends who are haring their DIY gift ideas. Be sure to scroll to the bottom of this post for so,e gret homemade gift ideas.

What You Need To Make Homemade Vanilla

Small bottles (I used these 8.5 oz. bottles.)

Vodka

Tahitian or  Madagascar fresh vanilla beans. ( I used these Tahitian vanilla beans.)

How to Make Homemade Vanilla

Cut the beans or slice lengthwise.

Place 4-5 vanilla beans in the washed glass bottles.

Fill the vodka to at least 1″ higher than the vanilla bean. If the vodka does not cover the bean, the bean will likely mold.

Cover and store in a dark cool place for 6 – 8 weeks.

Add a bow to the bottle and a tag or label. If you are gifting the vanilla before it’s fully ready, just include a note on the tag suggesting they wait to use the vanilla until after the due date.

Over time, the vanilla will seep into the vodka and the vodka will turn dark brown. You can turn the bottle occasionally but that’s about all you need to do until it’s ready!

For labels, I created these in Microsoft Word VanillaExtractLabel.
