Final Reveal of the Bedroom Makeover in a Month Challenge
I am so excited to share the final reveal of our Bedroom Makeover in a Month challenge. I am so happy how it turned out and cannot wait to share all of the details with you.
This Bedroom Makeover post is sponsored by Bed Bath & Beyond. All words, reviews, and opinions are mine.
I really enjoyed participating in the Makeover in a Month Challenge with my three blogger girlfriends, Karianne at Thistllewood Farms, Marion with Miss Mustard Seed, and Melissa from The Inspired Room. Each of us has been working on a room makeover and today we are sharing the final reveal. I am sharing our third-floor bedroom makeover.
We had a very neglected bedroom on our third floor and I am still surprised how “bare” it was. (Scroll down to see the before photo).
I never could have done this bedroom makeover without the most amazing partnership with Bed, Bath & Beyond. They have the best furniture and I love ordering everything online. I have included links to all of the items in the bedroom so be sure to check them out.
Here are my previous posts about this bedroom makeover project.
Bedroom Makeover in a Month – Week One Inspiration for My Bedroom – Week Two Bedroom Design Ideas – Week Three
It is hard to believe that the Makeover in a Month is over. It’s even harder to believe that I finished the makeover in time! We have been spending so much time in Ventura that I kind of panicked mid-way through. I was rarely home and I can assure you it is hard to remodel a bedroom from afar.
The bedroom on our third floor is a guest room and by far our most frequent guests are our boys. What that means is that I had to make the room a tiny bit masculine.
I really wanted a sitting area, a bench at the end of the bed, plenty of lighting, and adequate storage for our guest’s belongings.
I have been wanting to make a slipcover for quite some time. This was my first ever slipcover project and I am very happy how it came out.
Can you tell this bedroom used to be a dumping ground for old decor and more?
I just love how this bedroom looks now.
Look at this same angle in the room. It’s hard to believe the room is the same.
You might recall I put together a mood board for this bedroom makeover project. It’s so fun to see everything in the room now.
All of the links for these items are listed below.
Home Styles Cambridge King Bed in White Wash / Bee & Willow™ Oakdale Blackout Window Curtain Panel / Martha Stewart Isla Accent Bench
Jonathan Y Elicia Table Lamps in Natural with Linen Shades / Levtex Home Torrey Reversible Quilt Set / Martha Stewart Cavray Buffet in Light Brown
Hotel Luxury Concepts 500-Thread-Count King Sheet Set / 8′ x 10′ Rio Diamante Rug / Bee & Willow™ Sequoia Beaded Chandelier in Natural
Painting the Room
We have a lot of sage green in our home so I decided to paint the walls Swiss Coffee from Dunn Edwards. White walls are the best and I cannot believe the difference!
New Ceiling Lights, Lamps, and Drapes in the Bedroom Makeover
One of the things I have never liked about this room is the lack of good lighting. To solve this problem, I had an electrician remove, relocate, and replace the ceiling light. He also added a ceiling light in front of the bedroom window.
I am so in love with these Bee & Willow™ Oakdale Blackout Window Curtain Panels. They look amazing for blackout drapes.
This light was added to create a great reading chair.
I ordered this Bee & Willow™ Sequoia Beaded Chandelier in Natural, and was so thrilled when it arrived at our home.
Isn’t the ceiling reflection amazing?
I also ordered two Jonathan Y Elicia Table Lamps in Natural with Linen Shades. They are so perfect for this somewhat “textured” room.
Furniture and Rug
Since the bedroom is a guest room, I really wanted to make it as comfortable as possible. I saw this floor garment rack on the Bed, Bath & Beyond website and knew I needed one. Isn’t it perfect?
Having a TV in a bedroom is nice for guests, but I am not shy about using decor to “kind of hide” the TV. The Martha Stewart Cavray Buffet in Light Brown is going to serve as a dresser. I filed the inside with baskets. The ceramic floral vase looks so great with these fall colors.
The Home Styles Cambridge King Bed in White Wash is truly the focal piece of furniture and I love it. The mattress is from Beautyrest and it’s so comfortable. The
8′ x 10′ Rio Diamante Rug is natural and the pattern is fabulous. I used an American Fiber Rug Pad to secure the rug.
The Martha Stewart Isla Accent Bench is such a great piece of furniture and I can tell you the assembly was very easy.
Also, I forgot to mention that I painted this painting,
The bedding on the bed is all amazing. The Hotel Luxury Concepts 500-Thread-Count King Sheet Set has a beautiful tan border that I love. The Levtex Home Torrey Reversible Quilt Set has a great quilted pattern. I love the FAMILY pillow and the Ralph Lauren Mason Striped King Blanket in Cream.
Arranging Bookcases ina Bedroom Makeover
I loved arranging these bookcases. Previously you would only find books on the bookshelves. I did a pretty good job and shopped my own home for all of these decor items.
I found these baskets so that our guests could use them for storage. I love that they fit so perfectly.
Bookcase Lighting
I also lit the bookcases and I promise to share how I did that later this week. (They are even remote-controlled!)
Accent Wall
I am so in love with this wall treatment! I loved using the Stikwood products and they are so easy to install. The complete DIY will be on my blog later this week.
Slipcovered Chair
This was by far the hardest part of this makeover. As I mentioned before, I am a really good seamstress but I had never made a slipcover. I found this fabulous Tan and White Ticking fabric and I made this entire chair slipcover for about $50. My Slipcover DIY will be on my blog later this week.
I think the new slipcover was a HUGE improvement. But I do have to admit that I didn’t finish it until 4:00pm yesterday. As soon as I was done, Dave and I carried the chair up to the third floor. I styled it and photographed it just in the nick of time.
I used this Farmhouse Ticking Stripe fabric that is great quality and really inexpensive!
All this week I will be sharing details and DIYs about all of the projects I completed in this Bedroom Makeover. I cannot wait to share them with you.
The room looks great! I see you went with the longer drapes, letting them puddle and leaving the rod where it was. Good choice! Leslie, you are so talented….the painting is beautiful.
Thank you so much, Mildred!
This is a gorgeous makeover! I want to do an accent wall in a bedroom and am anxious to read more about what you did. The plaster looked to be in good shape-did you have any cracks or plaster issues to hide? My home is 100+ and I do have “plaster problems” I’d love to downplay. I am inspired by your update! Bravo!
I want to know more about the the painting. Did you use a palette knife? Please show it face on and give details. I am also impressed with the slipcover. You did it!!! The whole room is great.
I love how your guest room turned out — so serene and inviting! The month-long timeline really seems do-able (short enough time period to stay focused on a project). I am inspired by the idea of painting the walls ‘Swiss Coffee’ and having a punch of color with a painting. I want to copy your rug choice! ;o)
thank you, Michelle!! This was such a fun and rewarding process!!
Stunning bedroom makeover!
I adore those bookshelves.
Have a great day,
Kippi

So warm and inviting! Great style Leslie as always😍
Thank you so much, Melanie 🙂
