Refreshing Cocktails in Summer Colors
With warmer weather, it is also time to enjoy refreshing cocktails in summer colors. Today I am sharing four different recipes for the prettiest drinks in the most gorgeous summer colors!
I find inspiration to do things from the items that surround me. These refreshing cocktails were inspired by summer colors. I hope you will try some of these. They are very tasty and the colors are awesome.
Summer Colors
One of my absolute favorite things about summer is the lingering warm summer evenings. It has been really hot here in Southern California all week.
Once it reaches five o’clock in the evening and the sun is nearing the ocean’s edge, it becomes the perfect, almost magical temperature for sitting in our backyard. The light is a delicate soft pink. The temperature is warm with a hint of the day’s heat. The few bugs have gone to bed for the evening. It is the perfect time for cocktails on the porch in our backyard. All we are missing is fireflies to make it a truly perfect evening!
That reminds me, why don’t we have fireflies in Southern California?
Summer colors are some of my favorite colors. Pinks, oranges, and pinky-orange, I love them all.
How many of you have taken a photo of an incredible sunset only to be disappointed when the image reflected in the photo looks manufactured like the colors couldn’t possibly have been as deep and vibrant as the photo? Or what about when you take a photo and the colors in the photo look muted compared to reality?
Sunset colors and summer colors have a magic all their own.
I haven’t been this excited about summer’s arrival in a long time. The weather has shifted. Evenings are warm again and we are able to gather because we’ve all been vaccinated.
I really want to start entertaining again and I plan to have friends for happy hour on the back porch on a regular basis this summer.
Don’t you think it would be fun to create some summer color-inspired cocktails for summer happy hour?
I have made four different cocktails to share with you today. All of these can be made without alcohol also.
Fever-Tree makes my favorite cocktail mixers. They come in perfect-sized little mini cans so you don’t have to worry about it going flat between uses. I used a number of different Fever-Tree cocktail mixers for the summer colors cocktails, Ginger Beer, Tonic Water, and Ginger Ale.
The Grapefruit Mule
First, I made a Grapefruit Mule. I love a Moscow Mule. The acidity of the lime and the bite of the ginger beer is a perfect contrast to the icy coldness created by the copper mug they are served in. Mules have so many different variations. A Moscow Mule is made with vodka. A Kentucky Mule is made with bourbon. A Mexican Mule is made with Tequila. A Gin-Gin Mule is made with Gin and an Irish Mule is made with Irish whiskey.
For this Grapefruit Mule, I swapped the traditional lime for grapefruit which is still acidic citrus. I wasn’t sure how grapefruit and ginger beer would go together, but it turned out really great. I garnished it with a strawberry (because I was out of grapefruit) and I will add a squeeze of fresh grapefruit to the next one I make. This is a definite keeper recipe, perfect for summer.
To make a Grapefruit Mule, combine 1-1/2 ounces of vodka, 2 ounces of grapefruit juice, and 1/2 cup of ginger beer.
Pink Raspberry Cooler
Next, I made a Pink Raspberry Cooler. Ketel One makes incredible botanical vodkas. For this cocktail, I chose their Grapefruit and Rose vodka. We always have LaCroix at our house and we love the Razz-Cranberry flavor one, so I used it as the cocktail mixer. I muddled some raspberries (squished them) to add to the glass and topped them with additional raspberries. If you don’t like the seediness of raspberries, just leave them out.
To make this Raspberry Cooler, combine 1-1/2 ounces of vodka, 2 tsp of muddled raspberries, and 1/2 cup of ginger beer.
Orange and Peach Blossom Cocktail
Ketel One makes another botanical version, which is Peach and Orange Blossom. This one is my favorite! If you like a flavored vodka, you really should try this one. It’s delicious.
I made this cocktail using all of my favorite things, my favorite vodka, ginger ale, and orange juice.
For this cocktail, I used 1-1/2 ounces of the Ketel One Peach and Orange Blossom vodka, two ounces of orange juice, and 1/2 cup of ginger ale for the cocktail mixer.
Vodka Tangerine Tonic
About a year ago I found a brilliant way to make my own recipes. It has to do with using items you love. That’s kind of the premise I used for this cocktail. This cocktail is light and fresh, sweet from the tangerine seltzer and fresh-squeezed juice.
For the final summer color cocktail, I mixed 1-1/2 ounces of Titos vodka with 1/2 cup of Maha Hard Seltzer (tangerine flavor). I added 2 ounces of tonic water and then squeezed in some fresh tangerine juice.
These drinks in summer colors can also be made alcohol free so they are perfect for summer for everyone.
So which one is my favorite?

About your firefly question. They prefer dark, moist habitats like forests, fields and marshes. We live in rural Minnesota, well outside the city, in a forest, next to a marsh, so we often see them.

When you invite people for happy hour, do you serve appetizers so they don’t get drunk? How do you get them to go home without them expecting dinner or staying for many hours (because they are having a good time.) Really, anything you can produce for advice in this area will be appreciated!!
Thanks for your question, Lyn! I don’t do too many happy hours for this reason. However, when I do, I definitely serve a lot of appetizers! Also, make sure to set clear expectations that it is not dinner.
Fireflies need damp wooded area
I recently found that same copper dish at a thrift store. I used it this past weekend to bring a cake to my sisters house, never thought to use it as a tray. I am loving copper these days!
