Halloween is a really big deal in our town. But now that our kids are grown I tend to lean more toward fall decorations for Halloween than skeletons and spiders! Today I am sharing how I decorated our home for fall and Halloween. I also shared my DIY’s to make a wreath for our front door and painted pumpkins for our entryway.
When I mentioned that Halloween in our neighborhood is a big deal, I meant to say that we get about 600 trick-or-treaters every year. It’s crazy but I love it. We try to eat dinner really early on Halloween. We have to eat in the dining room because the doorbell rings at least twenty times during dinner! After dinner, we sit in the living room and take turns answering the doorbell. There were plenty of years that Dave had to race to the grocery store because we ran out of candy! It’s very fun but also kind of exhausting.
I decorated the outside on our front porch and also decorate our entryway. All of the florals, pumpkins, and wreath supplies are from JOANN. In fact, if you haven’t seen the inventory of pumpkins at JOANN you should go today. The selection and prices are unbelievable.
These Blooming Autumn white pumpkins are my favorite and I love how they look on our front porch. I bought them in three sizes, the Blooming Autumn Extra Large Pumpkin-Cream, Blooming Autumn Natural Pumpkin-Cream, and Blooming Autumn Small Round Pumpkin-White.
I also purchased Blooming Autumn 31” Paper Millet & Leaf Spray an put them in crocks on my front porch. The pop of orange color brings so much color and interest to our french porch. I love them.
In our entryway, I added more florals and Paper Mache Pumpkins which I painted in orange and green tones. Be sure to head to the JOANN app to see exactly how I painted these pumpkins. The DIY is all about adding shading and using lots of colors (which I mixed from only four bottles of paint.)
Below you can see two pumpkins painted and one unpainted. Can you believe the difference?
I also wanted a lightweight but fun basket to hold our Halloween candy. I painted the top rim of a basket and I love how it works for fall and Halloween.
JOANN has a lot of great fall decorations and Halloween themed wreaths. I wanted a large wreath for my front door so I ended up making one. I can’t believe how perfectly it turned out. These are the florals I used for my wreath (in the order they are pictured below):
Blooming Autumn Raffia Spray-Natural & Rust
Blooming Autumn Berry Bush-Orange
Blooming autumn pinecone spray
Blooming Autumn 37” Maple Leaf Spray-Burgundy & Orange
I also found the wreath at JOANN.
To make the wreath, start by cutting off about half the stems and just inserting the stems into the wreath.
Work your way around by adding more of the floral stems. I didn’t even have to glue them because they were so secure.
It only took me about an hour to make this wreath. And I absolutely love it!
I also added some of the fabulous Simply Autumn Medium Woodchip Pumpkins from JOANN in our living room. Aren’t they amazing?
I hope you are inspired by the many wonderful fall decorations I found at JOANN. Head to your local JOANN store or order online!

Looks great! And your painted pumpkins are perfect. (Wow – I didn’t actually mean to have that many P’s!) I love Joann stores – there’s always such fun stuff. Thanks for the reminder that I can go there any time I want! 🙂
Thanks, my friend! JOANN has the best pumpkins this year. They are amazing!

Not sure if I’m the only one, but I cannot find the link to how you painted your pumpkins. It’s just showing me the page on how to purchase them. I love how they turned out.
Sorry, it took a while to go live. It’s on the post now. https://www.handmadewithjoann.com/home/projects/2814

Hi…The Blooming Autumn Pumpkins-Cream are not available. Do you have any suggestions as to where I can purchase large cream pumpkins for my farmhouse front porch?
They were last year’s (2019) decor.
What an amazing and beautiful fall house you have, Leslie! Everything looks so inviting. It’s nice to think that fall IS coming soon! Here in Texas, it’s just plain old hot!
Love your autumn wreath, Leslie. Did you create the wreath with just one spray of each of the florals? Or did you buy multiples?
My favorite diy fall project is……Painted pumpkins.
My favorite DIY fall decor is your wreath!! I’ve tried several times to put together a wreath and it just never looks right. I’m so impressed with your eye for detail in color and texture 🙂
My fave project: painted pumpkins. I didn’t see directions for the metallic leaf wreath???
My favorite fall decor DIY project is your paper mache painted pumpkins. I love the wire flowers, too!
That is awesome, Mary Ann! I am so glad that you enjoyed.
My favorite fall DIY project is a wreath I created out of corn husks.
