10 Simple Ways to Organize Your Home Daily
It’s important to organize your home daily and not just in the new year. A clutter-free home brings a sense of calm and organization to your daily life.
However, maintaining a tidy space requires consistent effort and a strategic approach. Whether you live in a spacious home or a cozy apartment, these ten tips will help you keep your home organized and clutter-free throughout the year.

10 Daily Ways to Organize Your Home

1. Adopt a “One In, One Out” Rule

One of the simplest ways to organize your home is to remove an old item for every new item you bring in. Commit to letting go of something similar, whether it’s a new sweater, kitchen gadget, or decorative piece. This rule ensures that you don’t accumulate unnecessary items over time.
Action Step:
When you purchase something new, immediately decide what you will donate, sell, or discard to maintain balance in your home. It’s not that hard to do!
I replaced three canisters in my pantry with these awesome apothecary jars. They are so accessible (especially the bread flour) and freed up needed space in my pantry cabinet.
I may sometimes use affiliate links on this blog, which means a small commission is earned if you purchase via the link. The price will be the same whether you use the affiliate link or go directly to the vendor’s website using a non-affiliate link.
2. Declutter by Category, Not by Room

Instead of tackling clutter room by room, sort through items by category. For example, start with clothes, then move on to books, kitchenware, or sentimental items. Inspired by Marie Kondo’s KonMari Method, this approach allows you to see how much you truly own and makes downsizing easier.
Action Step:
Gather all items from one category in a single space and sort through them. Keep only the items you use and love.
3. Designate a Home for Everything

A major cause of clutter is items being left out because they don’t have a designated storage space. Assigning a specific place for everything—keys, shoes, paperwork, or remote controls—helps ensure your home stays tidy with minimal effort.
Action Step:
Use labeled bins, drawer organizers, and baskets to create specific spaces for everyday items.
4. Set a Daily Reset Routine

Taking a few minutes at the end of each day to reset your space can prevent clutter from accumulating. This includes putting away items, wiping surfaces, and returning everything to its designated place.
Every night, before I head to bed, I spend ten minutes doing the same daily routine. Five minutes in the kitchen and family room is all it takes!
Action Step:
Create a simple nighttime routine with a 10- to 15-minute tidy-up session before bed.
5. Declutter Seasonally

Decluttering should be a seasonal habit rather than waiting until your home feels overwhelming. Assess your belongings every three to four months and remove items that are no longer useful.
Action Step:
Mark seasonal decluttering dates in your calendar to remind yourself to reassess your wardrobe, pantry, and home decor. I try to do it weekly, especially in the butler’s pantry, which seems to be a “dumping ground” for items needing to be put away.
6. Be Mindful of Sentimental Clutter

Many hold on to items for sentimental reasons, but storing too many keepsakes can quickly lead to clutter. Instead of keeping everything, select a few meaningful items that truly bring you joy or have a special memory attached.
Action Step:
Consider digitizing old photos and documents or repurposing sentimental items into useful items, such as a quilt made from old T-shirts.
Although I have a few stacks of t-shirts in the craft room waiting to become quilts! Oops.
7. Create a Drop Zone for Incoming Items

Mail, keys, bags, and other daily-use items can quickly become cluttered if they don’t have a designated space. To keep these items organized, set up a “drop zone” near the entryway with hooks, a small table, or baskets.
Action Step:
Invest in a stylish tray or a wall-mounted organizer to keep everyday essentials in one place. I have two vintage items (an old brick mold and a wooden box) on our entryway console to collect mail and keys.
8. Practice the 10-Minute Declutter Rule

If the idea of organizing feels overwhelming, start small. Dedicate just 10 minutes daily to tidying up one area of your home. This approach makes decluttering manageable and helps you maintain a clutter-free space over time.
Action Step:
Set a timer for 10 minutes each day and tackle one small space, such as a kitchen drawer or a bedside table.
9. Avoid Impulse Purchases

Mindless shopping can lead to unnecessary clutter. Before making a purchase, ask yourself if the item serves a purpose, if you have space for it, and if it will add value to your life.
Action Step:
Implement a 24-hour rule: Wait at least one day before buying something non-essential to determine if you genuinely need it. I have stopped buying craft supplies unless I need them. Since I have way too many items stored away in my craft room I try to create a new craft based on supplies I already own
10. Make Decluttering a Family Effort

If you share your home with others, involve them in decluttering. Assign tasks to family members and encourage everyone to take responsibility for their belongings. That includes my husband. Hehe.
Action Step:
Hold a monthly decluttering challenge where each family member picks one area to organize.

A clutter-free home is achievable with small, consistent habits. By implementing these strategies, you can create a more organized, peaceful living space that brings you joy all year long. Which of these tips will you try first? Let me know in the comments!
