Valentine’s Day Dining Room Table Decor

Valentine’s Day is the perfect occasion to transform your dining room into a romantic haven that sets the stage for a memorable evening with your loved one. One of the key elements in achieving this ambiance is your dining room table decor. I think you are going to like my neutral table as it has a little bit of everything!

I am using a combination of a woven and rattan charger, harmonizing different styles of pink tableware, incorporating three styles of glassware, combining sterling and silverplate flatware, adding fresh flowers, and introducing vintage-style metal flowers and rosette napkins in my table setting.

Mixing Woven and Rattan Placemats

Creating a captivating tablescape starts with choosing the right base for your dining setting. To infuse a rustic yet romantic vibe into your Valentine’s Day table decor, consider mixing woven and rattan placemats. Woven placemats bring a touch of natural elegance, while rattan placemats add a hint of rustic charm.

The interplay between these two textures will create a visually stimulating and unique foundation for your table setting.

Place the woven placemat on the bottom to provide a subtle backdrop, and then stack the rattan placemat on top. This layering technique adds depth and dimension to your table decor. The contrast between the two materials will evoke a warm and inviting atmosphere, setting the stage for a cozy and romantic Valentine’s dinner.

Blending Different Styles of Pink Tableware

Pink is the color of love and romance, making it the ideal choice for your Valentine’s Day table decor. To achieve a balanced and visually appealing look, experiment with different styles of pink tableware.

Solid and Patterned Color Plates

Opt for solid pink dinner plates and complement them with patterned ones too. This combination creates a dynamic contrast that adds visual interest to your table setting. The solid plates act as a canvas, allowing the patterned dishes to take center stage.

Mix and Match Pink Shades

Vary the shades of pink in your tableware to add depth and dimension. Pair soft pastel pink plates with deeper rose-colored bowls or salad plates. This harmonious blend of hues creates a romantic and inviting ambiance.

Vintage Colored Glassware

To add a touch of vintage charm to your table setting, incorporate vintage-colored glassware. Pink or amber glass goblets or wine glasses add a nostalgic element that complements the romantic theme of Valentine’s Day.

Combining Sterling and Silverplate Flatware

Adding a touch of metallic elegance to your Valentine’s Day dining room table decor can enhance the overall look and feel of your setting. One creative way to do this is by mixing sterling and silverplate flatware.

This combination achieves a balanced contrast, with the lustrous shine of sterling silver contrasting beautifully with the softer gleam of silverplate.

I don’t even think about how I am going to mix my silver and silverplate. I just set the table as if everything was matching!

The combination of the two types of flatware adds sophistication and charm to your table decor, making it perfect for a romantic dinner.

Fresh Flowers from Your Local Grocery Store

Fresh flowers are a classic and timeless addition to any table decor, and Valentine’s Day calls for a burst of floral beauty. To make your dining room table even more enchanting, pick up an assortment of fresh flowers from your local grocery store. Roses, lilies, and tulips in shades of pink and white are perfect choices for this occasion.

Arrange the flowers in a stylish vase as the centerpiece of your table. To create a romantic atmosphere, consider adding some candlelight to your setting.

Place a few scented candles or tea lights around the bouquet to set the mood. The combination of fresh flowers and soft candlelight will infuse your dining room with an irresistible romantic ambiance.

I also made the candlesticks I used on this table. You can find the DIY to make the candlesticks in my book, A Home to Share.

Vintage-Style Metal Flowers

For an extra touch of whimsy and uniqueness, incorporate vintage-style metal flowers into your Valentine’s Day table decor. These decorative pieces add a charming and eclectic element to your setting. You can find metal flowers in various shapes and sizes at antique stores, flea markets, or online retailers.

I found this Tulip Iron garland at Anthropologie and I love it! It runs the entire length of our very long table.

I placed this metal flower garland down the center of our table. The metal flowers can serve as delightful conversation starters and add a touch of nostalgia to your decor.

The combination of natural and metallic elements creates a harmonious balance that elevates the overall aesthetic of your Valentine’s Day dining experience.

Rosette Napkins

Completing your Valentine’s Day dining room table decor is the addition of rosette napkins. These elegant napkin folds add a touch of sophistication and refinement to your table setting. Creating a rosette napkin is surprisingly simple:

  1. Start with a clean, pressed cloth napkin.
  2. Lay the napkin flat on a surface, with one corner pointing towards you.
  3. Fold the napkin in half diagonally to form a triangle.
  4. Starting from the long side of the triangle, roll the napkin inward, creating a tight roll until there are about four inches left.
  5. Start on one end and roll the napkin. Leave about 2″ unrolled and tuck the end into the fold of the napkin
  6. Once the entire napkin is rolled, open up the two ends and flip it.
  7. Place the rosette napkin in the center of each dinner plate or on top of your woven and rattan chargers.

The rosette napkins serve both a functional and decorative purpose, adding a touch of luxury to your Valentine’s Day table decor while also providing your guests with a convenient way to clean up during the meal.

  1. While I Study, Love and Copy your tablescapes, there is one question…water glasses and wine glasses set upon the bare table. Do they not leave rings? Is there a treatment on your table that is resistant to water damage? Yes, I know coasters to match the round placemats are available (have them) but there gets to a point of too many under mats. Thank you !

  2. This has to be one of my favorite table settings. I love the soft colors and the way the amber glasses and goblets look with the soft pink. So pretty!
