The Best Apple Bread Recipe
I love to bake. Today I am sharing the best apple bread recipe, ever! It’s so delicious and very easy and fun to bake.
There is something about cooking bread that just makes me happy. And I am so thrilled to share with you today what I think is the best apple bread recipe. It’s moist and sweet and yet the apples are still tart. What can be better than that?
Today I have 15 bloggers joining me for a blog hop. All of us are sharing our favorite apple recipes. Be sure to scroll to the bottom of this page for all of their recipes.
What Kind of Apples Should I Use for Apple Bread?
I like to use at least two different kinds of apples. By mixing it up, I think the bread gets more depth. I almost always use Granny Smith apples but why not add in a red apple for a different flavor to your apple bread recipe?
As you can see below, I cut the apples into pretty small pieces. Don’t crush them. Instead, you should cut into small pieces and then hide them from anyone else in the family. (It’s a serious problem at our home.)
The recipe should make two small loaves, which is necessary in our home, as long as my boys keep eating our bread!
Look how perfectly this loaf cooked in the glass-ceramic plan.
It’s quite crumbly. But I love it that way.
Here are a few fun items you may need to make this bread.
I hope you will all try my recipe for The Best Apple Bread. The recipe really is that good!
The Best Apple Bread Recipe
This is an incredible bread recipe. It's so moist!
Ingredients
- Brown Sugar Topping
- 5 tbl sugar
- 5 tbl brown sugar
- 1/2 cup all purpose flour
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- Apple Bread
- 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 3/4 cups sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 2 cups peeled, chopped apples
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. This recipe makes two small loaves or one large loaf of apple bread.
Lightly spray a 9x5 inch loaf pan with non-stick spray and set aside.
Make the brown sugar topping - in a small bowl, combine the sugar, brown sugar, and flour. Melt the butter and stir until it’s combined. Set aside.
In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. In another bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, and melted butter until well combined. Add the buttermilk and vanilla and whisk until combined. Add this mixture to the flour mixture and stir until combined. Fold in the chopped apples.
Scoop the batter into the prepared loaf pan, smoothing the top. Sprinkle the brown sugar topping on the batter, pressing it lightly into the batter.
Bake for 50-55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the loaf comes out clean. Allow the bread to cool completely in the loaf pan.

Is it still considered bread if it does not contain yeast? Looks delicious but why is this called apple bread and not apple cake?
This is a quick bread because it uses baking powder to leaven it. That’s the difference between yeasted breads and quick breads–the kind of leavening which is used. Banana bread, biscuits, and Irish bread are all examples of quick breads. However, my family eats quick breads as a dessert, so if you want to call it “cake”, go for it!
Can’t wait to try it! Love your loaf pan. Do you know where I can purchase?
This looks absolutely delicious! I’m also love making bread and you can’t go wrong with apple bread, no matter the time of year. Happy fall!

Can you substitute applesauce for one of the liquids
Oh my gosh, this bread is delicious! My family couldn’t wait for it to cool before digging in. It is fantastic – moist, apple laced sweetness with a crumbly top. Yum! Looking forward to to trying it when fully cooled if it lasts that long. Thank you for sharing this wonderful recipe.❤️
