It’s Time to Start Looking for Vintage Christmas Ornaments
I have collected Vintage Christmas ornaments for years. There is something so special about the magic of vintage ornaments.
I love vintage ornaments, especially the ones from Shiny Brite. Today, I am sharing where you can find them, too.
I use my vintage glass ornaments in many different ways. Last year, I created this Silver and Gold table for the holidays, and so many of you commented on the vintage ornaments on the cake stands!
Most of the vintage ornaments I have collected are in traditional Christmas colors. I love that there are hundreds of designs of these vintage ornaments, and they come in all shapes and sizes.
I love using vintage ornaments on cake stands and tables, and I often use them to fill the vintage wood boxes I use to hold our Christmas trees.
My Favorite Vintage Ornaments
Shiny Brite makes my favorite vintage ornaments.
I can tell you a funny thing about these vintage ornaments: I like the Shiny Brite boxes almost as much as the ornaments. It’s true!
I may sometimes use affiliate links on this blog, which means a small commission is earned if you purchase via the link. The price will be the same whether you use the affiliate link or go directly to the vendor’s website using a non-affiliate link.
Shiny Brite Ornaments
Shiny Brite ornaments were created just before World War II. Shiny-Brite’s first signature round ornaments, made from beautifully colored glass and painted pastel stripes, were treated as keepsakes.
They are all keepsakes!
Here are a few of my Shiny Brite ornaments from my collection. I love the striped ones. They are by far my favorite.
I love to use the Shiny Brite boxes as decor over the holidays.
Where to Buy Vintage Shiny Brite Ornaments
So, where did I buy my vintage Shiny Brite ornaments? I bought them at flea markets, antique stores, and my friend Judy’s vintage warehouse at VintageJunktionLA.
Anytime I spy these boxes with white, silver, red, and green ornaments, I jump at the chance to buy them (if they are well-priced). I spent hours looking through the warehouse at Judy’s and found so many!
If you are interested in finding vintage ornaments, you can also check out this link on Etsy. (Please note that you can find them for a lot less at flea markets.) Shiny Brite ornaments come in different sizes, and some come in their original boxes, which is a huge plus! Obviously, these ornaments are fragile, so proper shipping is important.
Shiny Brite Present-Day Ornaments
So, guess what?
Today, Shiny-Brite is recreating the joy and style of a mid-century American Christmas! They have new ornaments for sale at many major retailers.
Amazon carries a lot of Shiny Brite ornaments, which you can find here.
West Elm has a partnership with Shiny Brite; these ornaments are my favorite. The colors are fantastic, and I love them!
They are also much more reasonably priced than vintage ones.

West Elm Shiny-Brite Ball Ornaments
I am so in love with these that I think I might order them!
These are the West Elm Shiny-Brite White Ball Ornaments, Set of 12, and these beautiful West Elm Shiny-Brite Pinecone Ornaments, Set of 12.
These are wonderful, too.
You can also find many vintage-inspired ornaments. Below are some of my favorites. I mix these together with my Shiny Brites, and they look amazing!
I hope you learned a little bit about vintage Christmas ornaments. If you see any of these Shiny Brites at a garage sale or vintage flea market, you might consider buying them!

Just a quick FYI – I’ve recently also seen the present day “Christopher Radko Presents…” version of the Shiny Brite ornaments at TJMaxx, Marshalls, and HomeGoods. And, of course, vintage ones pop up at estate sales and antique stores and malls, too. Happy hunting, y’all!
Love your Xmas tree skirt! Is it available this year?
Love the boxes too, I knew I wasn’t the only one! Love collecting 💕
Ahh – the memories! 🙂 My mom and grandma had a ton of these when I was growing up. Most of them didn’t make it to my collection, but I have a few. I love the white ones. Thanks as always for the great inspiration and info!
I have seen new ones in stores. Look like vintage, box looks vintage but on closer inspection they are made in China 😥.
Very nice post! I love Shiny Bright ornaments. I love your Christmas trees. Do you have a link where they might be purchased? Thank you.
I’ve been collecting Shiny Brights too! My dad gave me a box of them that came from his mother and I have been on the hunt ever since!
I love these ornaments! My mom gave me a ton of boxes when I moved out about 35 years ago and I still have a lot of them. It is so nice to see Shiny Brite making these again.
Loved your post!
The new Shiny Brites are all made in China, including the ones offered by West Elm. I cherish my vintage ornaments and love finding original ones to add to my collection. But, I will never, ever purchase Christmas ornaments or decorations that are Made in China.
Amen
Wonderful post, Leslie! I love vintage ornaments, and this was very helpful. You have an amazing collection. Just beautiful.
Your post reminded me of ornaments my mom and dad had our tree when I was a child. I especially remember those bell shaped shiny brights. It brought back some good memories. Thanks for sharing yours, and the sources where to find them!
I use the boxes as Christmas decorations too. They represent the spirit of Christmas Past.
I love the vintage ones the best! Wonderful sweet memories. I look forward to reading your blogs. I tell my friends about your site. Thank you for sharing with us!
Oh my gosh Linda, thank you so much for sharing my blog with your friends! I love the vintage ornaments also. I love to think about the homes they’ve lived in and how special they have been to others before me 😊 Have a great Friday!
How can you tell Shiny Bright ornaments from others? No box.
I heard that there is a star on the ornament.
And vintage from new?
On the cap it’s imprinted in the metal! I have over three hundred Shiny Brite ornaments. I’v been collecting them for over twenty years ! Wish I had more boxes! This year I used my vintage mixing bowls show them off! All of the same colors and patterns are in different bowls! I love them!
Oh that sounds pretty Suzanne! Those bowls sound fantastic ☺️🙌🏻
I have many ornaments that look like the Shiny Brite and some that are even older from my parents and grandparents. I want to sell them all. No boxes left. Anybody want some?
Hi Leslie – We have some Shiny Brite ornaments that belonged to my Mother-in-law. We would like them to go to a good home where they will be appreciated. Are you interested in receiving them for your collection. We are not looking for payment.
Happy Thanksgiving and God bless you and all your families
Oh thank you so much Heidi! Hope you and yours have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday as well ♥️
Wonderful childhood memories. I began collecting vintage Shiny Brites when my daughter was born (nearly three decades ago) and had enough to cover ten trees! Looking at the etsy prices, cannot believe I put some out at a neighborhood yard sale. My favorite is when the original prices are still on the boxes! Traditional Christmas colors aren’t in my home color palette so the pinks are my favorite! Thank you for sharing this.
