How I Styled Our Family Room for Winter

|

Winter is the perfect season to refresh and cozy up your living spaces, and this year, I had so much fun styling my family room with a beautiful winter color palette of amber and blush.

These warm tones created an inviting and sophisticated space, making it the perfect retreat during the colder months.

Today, I’ll take you through my changes, the thoughts behind my updates, and the details that brought our family room to life.

Plus, I’ll share a sneak peek of what’s coming next for this space!

A Big Change: Reconfiguring the Room

A cozy living and dining space with a wooden table, chairs, and place settings on the left. A white couch, round coffee table, and large windows with hanging lights on the right.

The first significant update I made in the family room was repositioning the dining table. Previously, the table was parallel to the back windows, but I decided to turn it perpendicular. Why? Because I needed to create more space for an exciting upcoming change: a new sectional!

Our beloved 25-year-old Pottery Barn sectional has served us well over the years, enduring three slipcovers and countless memories. However, it’s time for a replacement. I’ve been shopping online for a more extended, more spacious sectional, and not white (a practical choice!).

I’m getting close to finding the perfect one, and I can’t wait to see the impact it will have on the room. This new sectional will be a game-changer, creating a cozier seating area for family gatherings and lazy winter evenings.

Embracing My Winter Color Palette

This season, I embraced the warm and elegant tones of amber and blush throughout the room. These colors feel rich yet soft, striking a balance perfect for winter decor.

  • Amber Accents: I incorporated amber tones through stunning water glasses I purchased on Amazon. These glasses are one of my favorite finds; the color is eye-catching and adds warmth to the space.
  • Blush Details: Blush accents were used in the form of napkins, bowls, and pillow covers. The blush tones are subtle yet impactful, complementing the amber perfectly and adding a soft, romantic vibe to the room.

The Dining Table Details

The dining table is one of my favorite parts of this room, and it has a winter makeover that aligns beautifully with the amber and blush palette.

Here’s what I used to style the table:

Burlap Chargers: These rustic chargers create a natural, textured base for the table setting.

Brown and White Transferware Plates: These plates add a classic touch and pair wonderfully with the neutral burlap chargers.

Blush Bowls: These bowls bring in the soft pink tones and tie into the overall color scheme.

Amber Water Glasses: These glasses are the star of the table setting. Their warm color catches the light beautifully and ties the amber tones together.

Cordless Table Top Lamps: These lamps are often used on our outside talbe, but I moved them inside for the winter. I love them so much that they may never get put back outside. Once charged, they last a very long time and have three different settings.

Blush Napkins: The blush napkins add a soft, elegant touch to the table. I love how they bring out the pink tones in the bowls and complement the amber glasses.

Air-Dry Clay Hearts: For a whimsical and personal touch, I scattered the table with air-dry clay hearts I made a few weeks ago for Valentine’s Day. They’re simple yet charming, and I love how they add a handmade feel to the table.

Faux Florals: Effortless Elegance

A dining table set with pink plates, decorative glasses, a small lamp, and a wicker basket filled with peach-colored leaves.

This winter, I opted for all faux florals in the family room, and I’m so pleased with the result. Faux florals are low-maintenance and provide an easy way to keep your space looking fresh and vibrant throughout the season.

  • Eucalyptus: I used faux eucalyptus stems on the dining and coffee tables. The greenery adds a natural touch, and the muted green tones work beautifully with the amber and blush color palette.
  • Arrangement Tips: I mix and match different textures to create a more realistic look when styling faux florals. I placed a few stems in a simple vase for the coffee table to keep the arrangement light and airy.

Cozy Accents: Pillows and Textures

A quick and easy way to refresh any room is by updating your pillow covers, and that’s precisely what I did in the family room.

  • Pillow Covers: The new pillow covers were selected to emphasize the amber and blush palette. I love how they bring subtle patterns and textures that add visual interest to the room.
  • Layering Textures: Along with the pillows, I layered soft throws and added a rattan tray on the coffee table for an extra touch of warmth and texture. These small details go a long way in making the space feel cozy and inviting.

Why I Love This Color Palette for Winter

Amber and blush may not be the first colors that come to mind for winter, but they work so beautifully together. The amber tones bring warmth, reminiscent of candlelight or golden sunsets, while the blush adds a delicate, romantic touch. They create a sophisticated, cozy atmosphere that feels perfect for the season.

Looking Ahead: The New Sectional

A cozy dining and living room features a wooden dining table set with dishes, a white sectional sofa, a round coffee table, large windows, light walls, and decorative lighting.

As much as I love how the room looks now, I’m even more excited about the upcoming addition of a new sectional. The current layout has been adjusted to accommodate a longer sectional, providing more seating and redefining the space. The space on the right side of the sofa is now open, and enough room will be available for a walkway.

I’m leaning toward a sectional in a neutral tone that’s not white—something durable, practical, and still stylish. I’ve bookmarked a few options and will share the final decision soon. I can picture cozy family movie nights and gatherings in this updated seating area.

Final Touches and Reflections

Please don’t laugh, but I had to share the picture of my vintage compote on the side table. I have been needlepointing a lot as I aim to finish two stockings this year for my daughter-in-law Charlotte and my grandson Graham.

I use the dish for my thread cuttings, and I got a good laugh when I noticed how well they matched my new decor. Hehe.

I will finish Charlotte’s in February and, hopefully, Graham’s stocking by October. Usually, they take a year to make, so I will be busy!

What’s Next?

Styling my family room for winter has been such a rewarding process. The amber and blush palette has brought new life to the space, and the updates have made it feel fresh and functional. The dining table’s new orientation, paired with thoughtful decor details like the faux eucalyptus and amber glasses, has transformed the room into a warm and welcoming retreat.

And the art I found for the Frame TV is just perfect!

I love how small changes, like new pillow covers or rearranging furniture, can make a big difference. And with the new sectional on the horizon, this room will only get better.
