AROUND THE HOUSE // Decorating a Room with Flea Market Finds
As you know I love to shop at Flea Markets. Since I live in Southern California I have learned the most unique and best-priced items are usually found at a large Flea Markets. Fortunately we have a lot of them near where I live!
Last Sunday I went to the Rose Bowl Flea Market and this past weekend I went to the Long Beach Flea Market. Both of these shows are amazing. If you have time to hunt then you won’t go away empty handed. I thought it would be fun to share some of the wonderful items I found.
Pictured above is my favorite “find”, which are the marquee lights that say ART. They are already painted black and since I am an artist I could not resist buying them. I think they look awesome in my new craft room. I will probably hang them, but for now, I think they look pretty cool in the window! (I should mention my new dress form was bought at an antique store in Long Beach called Magnolia and Willow. Although I saw about twenty of them at the Long Beach flea market too.).
Last weekend at the Rose Bowl Flea Market I found this vintage metal mattress holder (ok, I know that’s not what’s it called but you know what I mean). It was only $5.00 and I love that I didn’t have to paint it! I will use this to keep track of my notes and reminders for my business. A few wooden clothespins are all I need. I love it!
You might have seen my newly painted metal cabinet on Instagram. I found this at @throughtheporthole. They were at Long Beach yesterday and I love Patrick and his wife Rozana. You have probably seen on my Instagram their place near San Pedro. They have the coolest stuff and great prices. I repainted this cabinet, which took FOREVER, but I love it. I can’t even imagine how much crafting stuff this will hold!!! And, I will be adding some of the chippy charm back to it soon though. I promise.
I also found a bunch of other things. I found the grain sacks that I didn’t buy and regretted not buying last week at Rose Bowl. I bought ones with red and red and green to make some holiday items. I also bought two wooden crates and a galvanized bucket for more holiday decor. If you missed my post last week I will be starting my new feature, “Twenty Thursdays ‘Till Christmas” this week. Every Thursday on my blog I will share a wonderful holiday decor idea. Many of them are DIY’s and some of them are creative decorating ideas you can do with items you can find now! You might want to subscribe to my blog so you don’t miss any of these ideas!
I also found these pillows. They are made from African fabric (that was everywhere at both flea markets) and are usually in black/white or denim blue/white. When I saw them in gray and saw that they were already made in to pillows and not just fabric, I knew I had to have them. Plus, they were only $35.00. And … they fit the IKEA 20″ x 20″ down pillow inserts. Slam dunk.
My final purchase at Long Beach were these windows! I am so excited and cannot wait to get them hung! I saw at least a hundred white windows and truly love the ones I bought. Can you believe the leaded ones? I paid $30 for each of these. I know some of you can find them for less where you live, but I thought the prices were great for Southern California!
All in all, what an amazing flea market experience! I head to Atlanta this week for the Haven Conference and I cannot wait! Are any of you going? I don’t know anyone there and would love to meet up to meet some new friends!

Oh my goodness. Thank you so much for your sweet comment.
Love the crib mattress and would love to repurpose our old baby crib that no longer meets safety standards. Is your a standard size? Or a smaller more decorative size?
That’s a great question. I think it seems to be the standard size. I can measure it when I get home!
Love decorating with what I find at flea markets and antique stores!
Me too! It’s so fun to repurpose something. It allows us to be creative.

I love the way you have used the metal mattress holder! What a great way to keep pieces of information organized and easy to reference. I have note cards and post-it notes all around and your ability to foward think a use for that piece is inspirational to me.
