A Fun and Colorful Christmas Dining Room

| |

I love creating a fun and colorful Christmas dining room. We decorated with cranberry glass, Christmas dishes, and Shiny Brite ornaments.

Every time I walk past the dining room my heart jumps. Everything looks so festive and happy. I can’t wait for the boys to be back here next week to see how gorgeous everything looks in my Christmas dining room.

I love this.

It’s colorful and elegant, and fun.

I mixed in all of my favorite things … my favorite Christmas china, some items from my cranberry glass collection, and lots of Shiny Brite ornaments.

If you don’t have any apothecary jars, now is the time to get a few. I just love how well they display my glass ornaments!

Can you see the vintage Christmas cocktail napkins on the table, placed underneath the ornaments? How fun is that?

And don’t panic that you can’t find the cranberry glass because it’s all vintage.

Because it’s not.

The cranberry goblets are new and they are available here.

I love setting a table for eight. It makes everything more festive and since I love to entertain I need a table that fits all of our family and/or friends.

I also changed up my color palette a bit and added some jewel-tone colors and the stronger intensity of jewel-tone colors makes the table stand out so much more!

My dining room table can be found here and the chairs can be found here.

So how did I decide on how to decorate my dining room?

I wish I could tell you it was planned from the very beginning. But it was not. This table evolved with lots of options.

Usually, we have a few things in mind when I start decorating. At first, we thought we wanted to make it all about cranberry glass. But then the Shiny Brite ornaments appeared and we knew we wanted it to be more fun and colorful.

While I was looking in the Butler’s Pantry for dinner napkins, I discovered the vintage Christmas cocktail napkins. So we decided to add them to the table also.

These Spode Gold Christmas Tree plates are my absolute favorite. They match about every one of the red plates I have!

The gorgeous cranberry vase is actually a vintage cranberry punch bowl. I bought it from an online friend. We have used it as a vase since I received it. I’m not sure it will ever hold punch! It looked fabulous for fall too!

You can find a lot of vintage cranberry punch bowls here.

The cranberry and gold water glasses are vintage. This link is where I find all of my cranberry glasses. As I mentioned earlier, the cranberry and gold goblets are available here.

Plates in the Christmas Dining Room

We played with the plate options for a while. Considering that I have a number of Christmas plates as well as lots of red and/or green plates, it took us a while to decide. It was hard!

We compromised by selecting two options and alternating the place settings on the table. You might recognize the dinner plate on the left which is from Caskata. We held a giveaway last week with them and two lucky winners won 8 dinner plates, 8 salad plates, and 8 canape plates! We also used enamel flatware from Antique Farm House. I love the way the flatware looks on this table!

Christmas Trees in the Dining Room

A few years ago I added Christmas trees to every room in our home. They are so festive and can make a huge difference. I love the glow of the trees when we are in the dining room. It’s just magical.

Of course, we can’t put really large trees in the dining room or they would interfere with our guests’ seating. These two trees are from Balsam Hill and they are a perfect size and prelit. They are the 6.5″ Alpine Balsam Fir Tree. They offer it in sizes from 4.5″ up to 12′

I decorated the trees with lots of berry sprigs and then added more Shiny Brite Christmas balls. The “tree skirts” are actually tablecloths!

  1. Lovely! Makes one want to come and have dinner at your house. I just love a beautifully set table. a bit of yester year but still so appealing.

    1. Debbie,
It’s all mixed! Most of it is Wallace Rose Point sterling. But I also have Vintage silver plate which is the one with the grapes. And a few others mixed in there too!
