How to Style a Bar Cart
For years, I have tried to make our living room more welcoming for guests and family, and adding a bar cart might be precisely what we need.
My approach to styling the bar cart assumes we will use it, so I needed to leave space on the top shelf to mix drinks! As much as I would like it to look pretty all the time, this is a rare time when function is just as important as fashion!
Elevate Your Living Room Decor: A Guide to Styling a Bar Cart

The Bar Cart as a Stylish Statement Piece
When I first set out to style our bar cart, I aimed to create a welcoming and inviting space for guests and family while showcasing our favorite spirits and cocktail essentials. (All I need to do is move the four gold-rimmed glasses below.) The Pottery Barn Everson Antique Brass bar cart provided the perfect foundation for achieving this balance of functionality and aesthetics.
Top Shelf Essentials
To ensure practicality for mixing drinks, I left ample space on the top shelf of the bar cart. Here, I placed a selection of floral decor to add a touch of freshness and elegance.
Alongside the floral arrangement, I included a glass and gold ice bucket, a martini shaker, and all the essential tools needed to mix drinks, such as jiggers, strainers, and muddlers.
I showcased our favorite spirits for vodka and tequila cocktails, making crafting delicious drinks easy for guests and families.
Bottom Shelf Elegance
On the bottom shelf of the bar cart, I focused on displaying elegant glassware and accessories. Two ice buckets and wine decanters added sophistication while a selection of cocktail glasses stood ready for use.
I also need to add a stack of cocktail napkins to complete the look, ensuring guests can enjoy their beverages with style and convenience.
My Favorite New Bar Cart Items
I decided to add a few new items to our bar cart, and since they were gold accents, I needed them. Most everything I own is silver!
Lysenn Whiskey Glasses
These hand-blown glasses are gorgeous and are perfect for all drinks, including my boy’s favorites, Old Fashioneds.
Mud Pie Ice Bucket and Tongs
This hand-painted and hand-hammered ice bucket is elegant and practical. The stainless steel tongs are great, too.

This Gold Cocktail Shaker Set includes a measuring jigger, mixing spoon, and muddler. Perfect for home bar accessories and for making cocktails and even protein shakes
Highball Amber Galsses – 6 Pack
These 12oz Amber Glasses have vintage embossing and can be used for any beverage.
Styling a Bar Cart Without Alcohol: Embracing Spring Decor
While alcohol can undoubtedly add to the allure of a bar cart, it’s entirely possible to style this versatile piece without spirits. With spring in full bloom, you can refresh your bar cart with seasonal decor, creating a vibrant and inviting space that celebrates the season’s beauty.

Here are a few more ideas.
Functional Flourish
While the focus was on spring decor, your bar cart can remain functional and practical for everyday use. Place a selection of non-alcoholic beverages on the top shelf, such as sparkling water, lemonade, and iced tea, providing refreshment options for guests of all ages.
On the bottom shelf, display a collection of elegant glassware and serving trays, perfect for spring-inspired cocktails or mocktails during gatherings with friends and family.
Floral Finesse
To infuse our bar cart with the spirit of spring, stock the top shelf with an abundance of fresh flowers and greenery. A mix of colorful blooms, such as tulips, daffodils, and hydrangeas, added color and fragrance to the space.
I opted for a mix of ceramic vases and decorative pots to showcase the floral arrangements, adding visual interest and texture to the display.
Seasonal Accents
In addition to flowers, incorporate a variety of spring-themed accents throughout the bar cart. Decorative bird figurines, pastel-colored candles, and whimsical bunny statues can add a playful touch to the decor, evoking the charm and beauty of the season.
To tie the look together, add a few woven baskets filled with seasonal fruits, such as strawberries and lemons, to add a pop of color and freshness to the space.

Whether styled with spirits or spring decor, a bar cart is a versatile and stylish addition to any living room or entertaining space. By carefully curating the cart’s contents and incorporating personal touches, you can create a welcoming and inviting atmosphere that reflects your unique style and hospitality.
