Spring arrived this week and now is the perfect time to freshen up your dining room spring table decor with new colors and decorative items.

I am continuing to update our home for spring and in the dining room I am still using two colors that perfectly capture the essence of this season, lavender and sage green. Let’s explore how to use spring table decor to decorate your dining room with these colors, how to mix and match items, and provide some tips on how to create a cohesive and inviting space.

Why decorate your dining room for spring?

Your dining room is a space where you gather with family and friends to share meals, celebrate special occasions, and make memories. Using spring table decor to decorate your dining room can help to create a cozy and inviting atmosphere that makes these moments even more special.

Updating your decor can also help to create a sense of freshness and renewal in your home and bring a touch of the outdoors inside.

Adding New Colors

One of the easiest ways to update your dining room for spring is by adding new colors. while I have chosen a spring palette of lavender and sage green, you can pick any palette you want! For me, lavender and sage green are the perfect colors for this season, as they evoke a sense of calmness, freshness, and renewal.

To incorporate your spring colors, start by adding new linens to your table. A lavender tablecloth or table runner can be a great way to add a pop of color to your dining room. If you prefer a more subtle touch of lavender, consider using lavender-colored napkins or placemats instead.

Next, look for ways to incorporate your second color into your dining room decor. This could include a major change by adding curtains or an area rug with your color palette. If you have a china cabinet or buffet, consider using colored vases or decorative objects to create a cohesive look.

Mixing and Matching Items

Another way to update your dining room decor for spring is by mixing and matching items. Don’t be afraid to combine different textures, patterns, and materials to create a unique and interesting look.

For example, consider mixing different types of chairs around your dining table. You could use traditional wooden chairs, upholstered chairs, or even vintage chairs to create a unique and eclectic look. Just make sure that the chairs are all roughly the same height so that they are comfortable to sit in while eating.

You can also mix and match different types of tableware to create a unique look. For example, consider using different colored plates or mixing and matching different types of glasses. You could also use different patterns of tableware, such as floral or geometric patterns, to create a playful and interesting look.

Balancing Color

To create a cohesive and inviting dining room, I debated if I should use lavender and sage green together in a way that was balanced and harmonious. One way to do this is by using these colors in roughly equal proportions throughout the room.

Of course, I chose to use more sage green in our entire home as I was a bit afraid of too much lavender. I think it worked just fine!

Here you can see I used sage green napkins and placemats to balance out the color. Then I used lavender candles and ribbons on the napkins to create a cohesive look.

If you have artwork or decorative objects in your dining room, look for ways to incorporate lavender and sage green into these items as well. For example, you could hang a lavender and sage green abstract painting on the wall or use lavender and sage green throw pillows on your dining room chairs.

Other Tips for Decorating Your Dining Room for Spring

In addition to using new colors and mixing and matching items, there are other ways to update your dining room decor for spring. Here are some tips to help you create a beautiful and inviting space:

Bring in Natural Elements

To create a fresh and natural look in your dining room, consider bringing in elements from the outdoors. I used fresh flowers as a centerpiece and scattered fresh lavender from my garden down the center of the table. You could also incorporate natural materials such as wood or stone, woven baskets, or placemats.

Add Texture with Textiles

Adding textured textiles to your dining room can create a sense of warmth and coziness. Consider using a woven table runner, textured placemats, or a cozy throw blanket on your dining room chairs. You could also add a textured rug to the floor to create a soft and inviting space.

Display Spring-Themed Decor

Spring is a season of renewal and growth, so consider incorporating decor items that reflect this theme. This could include using fresh flowers or greenery as a centerpiece, displaying bird figurines or nests, or using colorful fruit or vegetables as decor items.

Incorporate Seasonal Scents

A beautiful scent is a powerful way to create a cozy and inviting atmosphere in your dining room. Consider using lavender-scented candles (as I did here) or diffusers to create a relaxing and calming ambiance. You could also use citrus or floral scents to create a fresh and energizing atmosphere.

Rearrange Your Furniture

Sometimes simply rearranging your furniture can create a whole new look and feel in your dining room. Experiment with different layouts to see what feels best for your space. You could also consider adding a new piece of furniture, such as a sideboard or buffet, to create more storage or display space.
