My Pottery Barn Slipcover Saga

Please note that 17 years ago this slipcover was really cool and in style…

Many of you read my Instagram post and saw my Stories about the 89 yards of fabric I bought to have two couches, two chairs, and a sectional slipcovered. A few of you messaged me and asked if I could have ordered one from the sofa builder.

Funny you should ask that.

Because I did order one. And unfortunately, it didn’t go too well.

I bought our sectional from Pottery Barn a few years ago. Ok, I bought it the same year we remodeled our kitchen. So it was only twenty-one years ago. Anyway, I have been watching the sales and prices online at Pottery Barn. A new slipcover is expensive so I thought I would be as thrifty as possible. And then I hit the jackpot.

There is a new fabric that Pottery Barn just introduced a new fabric called Sunbrella Performance Tweed. And for some reason, the slipcovers in that fabric were listed on their website for less than half the cost of the other sectional slipcovers. I went to the store to check out the fabric and a sales associate helped me order them online in the store. She also couldn’t believe the price either!

The shipping said six to ten weeks, which was fine, and yet they arrived in less than two! I was so excited that I filmed an Instagram Story. But sadly, when I started to put the slipcover on the couch, I discovered they were way too big. Like 6” bigger than every cushion I had.

I won’t bore you with the oh-my-gosh-what-a-huge-saga details but I can tell you one important thing. Apparently, Pottery Barn enlarged their PB Sofa Sectional within the last ten years. So it is mentioned in the small print, but neither the sales associate nor I saw it when the order was placed. So I am sending back the non-returnable slipcover. (That’s another story but I won’t mention it here.)

So that’s why I had to have my own slipcover made. For three times the price. Ugh.

But here is the thing. I still love Pottery Barn. It really is my favorite store. This was just one mishap out of the many times I have worked with them. They are usually awesome. And I will continue to shop there. I promise!

  2. Hi Leslie, love your blog! You recently mentioned an app you used to help with your photos, but I can’t remember what it was. Will you please give me the name again? Thank you, Jacki
