My Flea Market Project

| |

Flea markets are the best. Having a friend who owns a warehouse that is like a curated flea market is even better!

Today, I am sharing a fun idea called the Flea Market Project. I am so excited to get started on this and I can’t wait to share it with you!

My friend Judy from @vintagejunktionla stopped by our home today. If you aren’t familiar with Vintage Junktion LA, then you need to be. Judy has a warehouse in East Los Angeles which is like the Rose Bowl Flea market all under one roof. She has great merchandise and wonderful prices and I love visiting her warehouse. So many of the items pictured in the photo above are from her warehouse including the trunk I used for my living room coffee table, vintage books, wicker and wood table and white milk jug in my living room. I also purchased all of my vintage books and this green box I use to store my quilts.

If you look carefully at the bookshelves in our living room, many of the items have been flea market purchases.

Judy is also one of the most knowledgeable people I have met and knows everything about “junking”. She has collected and managed estate sales in the San Gabriel area for fifty years. She knows her stuff and has already taught me so much.

Judy is hosting the first annual East Los Angeles Flea Market and Art Sale on March 24, 2018. This event will be amazing as her warehouse will be open for shopping and all kinds of local flea market vendors will also be present. I am so excited. And today I agreed to take on a fun project for this event.

Judy and I came up with a really fun idea for her event. I will be designing a room inside Judy’s warehouse using items from her warehouse, I am calling it the Flea Market Project.  I am excited to think about all of the possibilities for this project. Perhaps it will involve suspending walls, creating a floor plan and mood boards, “shopping” in her warehouse for items to use, adding some shiplap, painting with lots of milk paint, slipcovering some furniture, making pillows from old quilts and chenille bedspreads, reconfiguring a piece of furniture so I can add tin panels and repurpose lots of vintage items as decor items for my “room”. I have not yet decided if the room is going to be a living room, bedroom or whatever but I can tell you it will not be a kitchen (or bathroom for that matter)!

The ladder that I used in this chandelier is also from Judy.

You will be able to follow my progress here over the next seven weeks. I will likely be doing my projects here and at the warehouse so stay tuned. I am so excited, I cannot wait. Many of the items used in the room (if not all) will be for sale and the final room will be revealed on March 24th at the East La Flea Market sale.

For those of you that aren’t local and can’t attend the event, I will be posting final photos here on my blog.

Vintage Junktion LA Warehouse is located at 4436 Worth St, Los Angeles CA and Judy can be reached at 323-819-9829. Head on over to her Instagram account and follow her to receive updates.

  1. Where do you find the energy to tackle this with being layed up for so long? It sounds exciting! Quick question, what do you use to hang your indoor windows? Thanks

  2. Leslie I’m in love with your slipcovered couch—it’s the one with the darling bird nest pillow. Is this the IKEA couch you talked about in your slipcover article? If so, I think they are now selling a different model now. Any info you can tell me, I’d appreciate it very much.
