WHAT I’M LOVING NOW // Chalkboards

I am addicted to chalkboards. I love the painted signs I have hanging in my house. But there is something really fun about making your own sign that fits your mood of the day! And a chalkboard is the perfect way to make a statement every day.

There are lots of great chalkboards you can buy online for a variety of prices from places like Houzz, Restoration Hardware, Target and Antique Farmhouse.

Another way to incorporate chalkboards into your home is to make your own. Follow these easy steps to learn how to make your own chalkboard.  Just find an old frame and remove the glass.

1//  Just find an old frame and remove the glass. Cut a piece of 1/4″ hardboard to fit inside the frame.

2// Spray surface of hardboard with primer and allow to dry.

3// Apply two coats of chalkboard paint with foam roller, allowing ample dry time between coats. Let dry for one day.

4// The most important step is to take a piece of chalk, and using the long flat side rub the chalk all over the chalkboard surface. Cover every inch. Wipe off the chalk with a dry towel. This step prevents a permanent mark left on your chalkboard the first time you write on it with chalk!

And lastly, I do have to mention my new favorite chalkboard is one made by Rae Dunn! (Are we surprised?)
