Twenty Thursdays ‘Till Christmas // Christmas Books

IMG_6404It’s fun to decorate mantles, tables, trees, and windows for the Christmas holiday. But what about places that aren’t typically dressed out in décor? Like bookshelves?

Before I started my Twenty Thursdays ‘Till Christmas theme, I knew I had to determine my color theme for my holiday décor. Last year I went a bit off the ledge and used the colors white and turquoise. This was based on the fact my living room was decorated in this color palette. Now that I have gone neutral (yeah!) I have chosen red, green and burlap. I think this means my house will actually feel like Christmas this year!

IMG_6377The only hard part about making Christmas decor in July is that the crafting items I want are pretty limited. Most of the items are from saveoncrafts.com and I think the colors are perfect.

Here is a photo of my bookcase before. As you can see it is very neutral. But I love it!

IMG_6405A few months ago I did an MIY (make it yourself) on how to wrap the books in white paper and stamp the book titles on the bindings. Because the books are white I decided to only use ribbon on these books.

I have been buying lots of vintage red and green books at flea markets just for this reason!.

Then I added a few more Christmas décor items.

I am so happy with how this turned out. I can’t wait to carry this them to my bookcases in the living room. But I think I will wait until it’s a bit closer to Christmas.

Before you lash out at me for posting Christmas décor in August, let me explain what this idea is. We’ve all been there where it’s mid-December and we realize we’re totally behind. On gifts, on RSVPing to parties, sending out Christmas cards and even putting up the decorations. Or even if you’re ahead, maybe you’re feeling uninspired. I figured that if I started now, I would be able to get creative with my décor ideas and have a whole repertoire of ideas. So, if you don’t feel like reading now, bookmark this and remember me come Christmas so that you can find some great Christmas décor ideas. When you are ready.
