Hosting a Summer Garden Dinner Party

I wanted to set up one of my existing long tables for the dinner, but none of them were long enough to hold 11 people. So I ended up using portable tables on the lawn. I am so happy with how it turned out.

I used some of my antique quilts for the table cloths and made centerpieces with sunflowers and some country greens. I used the hurricane lamps I purchased at Hobby Lobby as vases.

I layered the table settings with my Ikea placemats, alternating beige and burlap chargers from hobby lobby and used my Wedgewood china as dinner plates. You can find those here and here.

I also used my favorite chalkboard place cards from Save on Crafts and cut some fresh rosemary from my garden to dress them up a bit!

l reached out on Instagram and so many of you were kind enough to make recipe suggestions.

Here was the final menu:

Sweet Chili Peach Glazed BBQ Chicken With Grilled Peaches, Scallions and Onions

Strawberry Avocado Spinach Salad With Poppyseed Dressing

Rosemary Roasted Potatoes

Avocado, Tomato, and Fresh Corn Salad

Grilled Carrot Salad with Brown Butter Vinaigrette

I also made homemade apple pie and fresh peach cobbler. I owe a huge thanks to Melissa from @browndogvintage for sending me her grandmother’s peach cobbler recipe.

The meal was a huge hit, even though I forgot to put the brown butter sauce on the carrots!

  1. @my100yearoldhome. Absolutely looks amazing! I’m just a so-so cook and appreciate you with your talents. That’s a lot of work but it looks delicious. I grew up with a big peace tree in Orange County and do enjoy making peach cobbler. Is it possible for you to send me the recipe for the cobbler? I’d really appreciate it. Thank you! Also, how many people are you having for your class reunion? Sounds overwhelming to me but right up your alley. Hope you’re having it catered! Lol. cheryl waterson. [email protected]
